As a MRT technologist of an approved site of the Ontario Breast Screening Program, the incumbent performs mammograms within policies and procedures for both the Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR) and OBSP quality programs. The OBSP mammography technologist accepts the responsibility for client-centered care and for personal effective team functioning amongst peers and other members of the integrated cancer screening offices. Liaises with the Radiologist to ensure the technical quality of images is of the highest quality.

As a member of a Multidisciplinary Health Care team, co-ordinates, performs and evaluates Diagnostic Services examinations within the specific modalities and disciplines. Guides and directs clinical and technical associates and students in a teaching and research environment and provides patient care within the core values of respect, caring, innovation and accountability. Rotation though other modalities and sites based on qualifications and unit requirements maybe required.

As a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Registered X-Ray Technologist coordinates, performs and evaluates Diagnostic Services examinations, guides and directs clinical and technical associates and students in a teaching and research environment. X-Ray Technologists at McMaster Children’s Hospital work with state of the art equipment including Operating Room O-Arm. Our X-Ray Technologists are presented with regular opportunities to train in CT and interventional radiology, as well as participate in McMaster University affiliated research studies. Rotation through other modalities and sites based on qualifications and unit requirements maybe required.

 As a member of the healthcare team, the Registered X-Ray Technologist coordinates, performs and evaluates diagnostic imaging examinations within the specific discipline, provides patient-care to meet the clients needs and guides/directs clinical and technical associates, follows ''Standards of Practice'' as outlined from the College of Medical Radiation Technologists and performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement with ingenuity and initiative to apply and prescribe ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis.

Our Technologists are provided with a robust orientation and are provided opportunities to train in other areas of Diagnostic Imaging. Our CT team specializes in cardiac, stroke, trauma and neuro and work closely with a variety of interdisciplinary teams such as trauma, stroke, cardiac and the ED.   Rotation through other modalities and sites based on qualifications and unit requirements may be required. 

Unit Summary Diagnostic Services supports a high volume of diverse adult and pediatric patients and families, providing service within Radiology, CT Scan, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PET, Ultrasound and Interventional. Most areas within this Unit function 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
