From the endless glow of the midnight sun in the summer, to the nightly aurora shows in the winter, Yellowknife is waiting to amaze you!About the WorkReporting directly to the Manager, Nursing Units, you will be one of 2 Registered Nurses providing nursing care and assisting physicians during surgical procedures in an Operating Theatre.You would provide care during pre-admission, admission, post-operatively (i.e recovery) to the patient.  This position encompasses the roles of circulating nurse, scrub nurse and recovery room nurse. Some of the duties would be:Circulating - In this role, you will prepare the Operating room for surgical procedures. You will receive the patients and verify that the patient is aware of the pending procedure, ensure that the patient consent has been signed, ensure that all lab and test results are on the chart, assess the physical status of the patient and ensure that the appropriate area has been targeted for surgery.Scrub - You would scrub in and assist the surgeon with the actual procedure.  You would be responsible for ensuring that the proper surgical instruments are present for the different types of surgeries and that all equipment is accounted for prior and upon completion of all surgeries.PARR - You will receive the patient and monitor their status until it is deemed appropriate for release to the Acute Care Unit based on established discharge criteria.This position is currently available in Inuvik and Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.Typically these positions require a Nursing Degree, completion of an OR specific training program (3 to 6 months), and two years recent experience within surgical settings.What are the Benefits?In addition to highly competitive salaries, the Northwest Territories offers a Northern Living Allowance ($14,234 for Inuvik and $3,700 for Yellowknife), health and dental benefits, a generous pension plan, and outstanding leave benefits including deferred leave options.
