THE ROLE The Mechanical Design Engineer is aaccountable for design, development, installation and commissioning of plant and manufacturing equipment, field equipment, jigs & fixtures, and physical alterations to plant assets. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be project focused and will be part of a small interdisciplinary design team with accountability to the team leader for review and guidance on their PWP.  Ideal project load would be accountability for 1-3 concurrent projects. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES  Provide engineering certification of custom equipment Propose and design custom solutions to mechanical problems related to machine components, structural fabrications and machine design/layouts Perform 3D solid modeling and stress analysis on parts and assemblies of designs Responsible for due diligence and compliance with internal Engineering Design and Change Methodology (EDCM) Perform risk assessments on new equipment and for any alterations to existing equipment Communicate project KPI’s on a routine basis Perform equipment sizing calculations, define specification and facilitate selection process Provide detail component manufacturing specification and assist with procurement activities Liaise with vendors for equipment and part manufacturing/procurement Provide technical engineering assistance for problem analysis and troubleshooting activities for production process, equipment and components. Support process engineering group in mapping out processes for the optimization of new installations Support changes to equipment to improve safe functionality Work within the established drawing management system and assist with continuous improvement efforts Engaging operations personnel in troubleshooting and training activities  REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Expertise in SolidWorks 3D Solid Modeling software Excellent organizational skills Mechanical Design Diploma, or Mechanical Engineering discipline with 6 to 10 years’ experience. Strong background in Stress analysis Excellent planning, time management, collaboration, decision making and organization Strong independent work ethic Strong mechanical aptitude and problem solving skills Deep understanding of machine control systems will be an asset Experience with processing of composites and plastics will be an asset Experience in new product development would be an asset  *SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Mechanical aptitude, general manufacturing, and fabrication process knowledge
