Responsibilities As the Equipment Operator 3 you will be responsible for driving, operating, transporting and light servicing of all equipment operated by the Surrey Parks Division and you will also perform manual construction, maintenance and cemetery tasks. Some typical duties would include: verifying site location, identifying, marking and layout of interment site, excavation of graves utilizing a mini-excavator, rigging and placement and removal of the shoring device, placement and removal of concrete and poly grave liners utilizing a truck mounted crane, transporting of equipment, movement of soil utilizing a backhoe or tractor, liaising with the funeral director and public, operating a lowering device as well as the use a variety of hand and power tools. The Equipment Operator 3 will need to be proficient with a computer and able to keep accurate records; drive a City vehicle to and from job sites and interact and deal with inquiries from the public. Ensuring safe work procedures are adhered to. The successful applicant will: • Operate machinery with complete efficiency and safety including, but not limited to: tractors, backhoes, skid loaders, mini excavators, two-ton trucks and truck mounted lifting cranes along with all related attachments. ensure all applicable City and Provincial procedures and regulations are adhered. • Train and instruct staff in the proficient and safe operation of a variety of machines and attachments • Team lead with the interment ground crew, and assisting with ground maintenance • Superior public relations and interpersonal skills • Interacting with clients in a professional, formal manner where the focus is on completing the task pleasantly and correctly. • Communicate directly with the grieving family members to establish their preferences and meet with the public to provide information & assistance relating to interments, available cemetery space and cemetery rules and regulations. • Plan, schedule and carry-out all work necessary to provide the key components of cemetery service including interments, disinterment, set up and take down, landscaping and memorial installations on a day to day basis. • Good physical condition with sufficient strength and stamina to perform heavy manual work outside in the presence of all types of weather conditions. • Demonstrate good computer skills in Microsoft Office and computer programs. • Strong organization and problem-solving skills. • Perform other cemetery-related work, as required. Qualifications • Completion of grade 12. • Three years previous driving and operating experience on a wide variety of machines used by the Parks Division. • Three years of Parks maintenance or construction experience. • Two courses related to Parks Maintenance and Construction. • Valid Class 3 B.C. Driver's License with a safe driving record. • Valid BC Pesticide applicator's license. • Minium current Occupational First Aid level 1, asset. • Occasional Weekend Availability is an asset.
