Saw Operator/Grader

Well established, premium manufacturer of Engineered mass timber components and architectural structures for local and international markets looking for an experienced wood machinist with skills in wood grading for structural applications. The primary responsibility of this position is to assess the suitability of all raw material used in downstream production of engineered wood products. Working with a variety of softwood species SPF, Douglas fir etc. you are required to assess and mark which components make the specification for the component and eliminate errors due to out of grade characteristics. In this position you are also responsible for the set up and safe operation of an advanced optimizing saw. Maintaining efficiency by ensuring all materials are handled properly, smoothly loading and unloading via conveyors, and ensuring the saw optimization configuration matches the required specifications for the product. Inspecting the output to ensure cutting accuracy, identify any processing/product issues, perform routine quality checks and work with maintenance personnel to complete regular maintenance checks to ensure consistent operation. Full training will be offered on the specifications involved for each product but your base skills of wood inspection, grading and machine operation will be leveraged to reduce waste and maximize product performance. Qualifications:Experience operating an optimizing or comparable automated wood saw.Mechanical aptitude and good math skillsA proven history for reliability, accuracy, and attention to detailAn ability to work as part of a team to resolve production challenges as they ariseGood verbal and written communication skills.Ability to always maintain the safety of yourself and others through best practices on the production floor and in the workplace in generalAbility to maintain and promote a positive attitude, teamwork, and cooperationFlexibility to be cross trained and perform other duties as assigned This is a stable, full-time job offering a competitive hourly pay rate and a good benefits program.
