The Role Working under the direction of the Director, Student Affairs & Services and guidance of the Director, Indigenous Academic Initiatives, the Indigenous Initiatives Operations Supervisor will provide administrative, operational and supervisory functions for Student Affairs & Services and Indigenous Academic Initiatives including coordinating initiatives, projects and programs that support the Indigenization priorities at the College. This role will work collaboratively with a wide range of College community members, including: Administrators, faculty members, community members, student services staff, Elders and students.Responsibilities1.Develops and coordinates activities, programs, initiatives and academic support services for current and prospective Indigenous students.a. Supervises the daily operation of positions under their responsibility. a. applies the BCGEU collective agreement to daily decision-making within established standards;b. hires, trains and evaluates staff including providing orientation and ensuring appropriate professional development;c. provides input into staff job descriptions;d. coordinates and approves staff work schedules, vacations, absences and time sheets;e. supervises and trains practicum students, work study students, student assistants and auxiliaries;f. ensures adequate coverage for areas within responsibility, within existing budget parameters.3. Oversees the day to day coordination of the Elders in Residence program at the College. a. supports the hiring, scheduling and guidance of Douglas College 'Elders in Residence', including ensuring the Elders' honorariums are processed in a timely manner;b. advises staff and faculty on cultural protocols for working with Elders and Indigenous community members;c. accompanies Elders to College events;d. liaises between College contacts and Elders to confirm details for event participation and classroom visits;e. purchases or procures supplies for Elders' use (traditional medicines, workshop supplies, cultural items and gifts).4. Represents the College on committees and initiatives related to Indigenization and Indigenous academic initiatives. a. identifies and communicates with College and community resources and services and shares these with the network of staff who support Indigenous students;b. acts as a College representative for Indigenous groups and initiatives for the College serving area;c. acts as the designated College representative on provincial committees;d. communicates with, initiates and maintains contact with appropriate community groups, professional organizations, government agencies, Indigenous organizations, and First Nation Band Educational Offices;e. participates in committees and meetings with external partners, such as host First Nations, provincial working groups, or the national community of practice for Indigenous student services;f. works closely with and provides support to the Indigenous Advisory Committee.5. This position reports to Project ("Show") Producer and Production Manager, while also working with other Coordinators on the project in keeping the show operating in an organized and efficient manner. Coordinators are also responsible for working with and delegating to the project Production Assistants. Each Coordinator usually works closely with their specific group of artists' Supervisor or Lead in crewing, scheduling, and managing that group's body of work. Coordinators are significant points of information on the show and need to be able to balance multiple needs, projects, and tasks at one time. What You'll DoWork closely with your discipline supervisors in crewing, casting and scheduling your discipline's body of work, keeping in mind the overall show schedule, client reviews, bids, and other discipline needs.Establish a process for communicating discipline targets, assignments, and priorities to your artist crew, as well as the overall show crew. The role of the “Professional Scientist, GLP Projects” is to manage and coordinate Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) projects, acting as Principal Investigator (PI) or backup PI in support of GLP projects for outside clients, ensuring all aspects of the project are delivered in compliance with accreditation standards. As an integral part of the GLP team in the Chemistry unit, this individual will ensure all aspects of the GLP study are delivered and appropriately communicated to the Study Director and are in compliance with OECD GLP principles. The individual will direct technicians and lab assistants in the GLP team for all related lab activities and analytical support to meet all GLP guidelines. This individual is also responsible for developing and installing challenging methods, troubleshooting difficult analysis using a strong background and expertise in analytical chemistry to validate and modify existing methodologies to meet client requests. Additional duties include: archiving for GLP projects, being responsible for and accountable for day-to day technical supervision of projects and the timely delivery of various milestones for each project; participate in the drafting of project proposals and writing/revising project reports and verifying results; literature searches to support on-going continuous improvement activities. Requirements of the position: M.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry or a related discipline, combined with several years of laboratory experience in a Chemistry lab supporting trace residue chromatographic based analysis in an accredited environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience; demonstrated working experience acting as a PI on GLP projects; demonstrated and advanced working experience with a broad range of sample preparation and analyte extraction approaches and advanced level use of chromatographic systems, including Liquid Chromatograph and Gas Chromatograph coupled with various detectors - especially MS or MS/MS; proven leadership skills including team building, training and motivation combined with excellent customer service skills to work effectively with clients on critical time sensitive issues are essential; previous experience reviewing, evaluating and interpreting scientific data that have legal and/or health implications.
