Horizon School Division is committed to engaging and empowering all learners and prioritizes strong instruction, response to intervention, and wellness.The Horizon School Division is currently seeking applications for a permanent carpenter position in the Maintenance Department. The successful applicant would become a member of CUPE Local 3203. The carpenter performs rough and finished carpentry work in the construction and maintenance of buildings, grounds, and ancillary equipment. May perform minor elements of other trades. TheCarpenter works with a high degree of independence on assigned projects and cooperatively with other employees, particularly other tradespersons. Hours of work: 10 hrs./day, 4 days a week (7:00am to 5:30pm) Rate of Pay: The hourly rate of pay for this position is $34.62 per hour (bargaining is currently underway). Benefits will be available after a probationary period (90 days worked) and a successful evaluation. Typical duties and responsibilities: • Inspects, constructs, installs, repairs, and maintains buildings, furnishings, equipment, and carpentry-related grounds projects utilizing a variety of hand and power tools and building materials including wood, laminates, concrete, millwork, glass, and drywall.• Plans projects and materials requirements and develops layouts of new construction and alterations from drawings, sketches and/or specifications.• Orders and ensures stock is up to date.• Reports on work in progress and completed projects, including time and materials used.• Directs, advises, or assists other employees as appropriate.• Maintains tools and equipment in a safe and serviceable manner, and maintains a clean, safe work environment.• Maintains and controls board owned master keying and lock system.• Performs other related duties as required. Required knowledge, education, ability, and skills: Grade 12 diploma Valid Building Trades Qualification (carpentry) Must have a minimum of 8 years' experience as a journeyman carpenter. Should have a knowledge of other related trades. Locksmithing is a significant asset or willingness to train in Locksmithing. Must have a valid AB Drivers' License Successful applicants must complete a Criminal Record Check and submit an acceptable driver abstract.
