Detailed OverviewIn accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, and working collaboratively with the inter-professional care team in the provision of person-centered care, provides direct individualized nursing care in an outpatient setting to outpatients with varying complexities of illness requiring minor surgical procedures, diagnostic endoscopy procedures or interventional therapeutic endoscopic procedures. Assesses, plans, provides and evaluates nursing care and provides discharge teaching for patients (adults and children). Responsibilities Assesses patients and collects information from a variety of sources using skills of observation, communication, data review and physical assessment. Makes a nursing diagnosis of the patient's condition and determines whether the condition can be improved or resolved by an appropriate nursing intervention. Observes patient acuity for significant changes to patient condition and intervenes to provide and manage care as necessary. Acts to resolve problems or emergency situations by planning and performing nursing interventions and care, and evaluating outcomes. Assists physicians to perform therapeutic interventions by assisting with appropriate patient positioning for procedures and using a variety of procedure-related medical equipment. As a Laboratory Assistant you will be responsible for the specimen collection process, from greeting patients through to preparation of specimens for transportation. The successful candidate will be working a minimum of 20 hours up to 37.5 hours/week at various LifeLabs locations in the Delta and Surrey, BC region. The successful candidate will work 5 days a week and have 2 days off. In this role you will: Greet and request required information from patients, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure patients have followed necessary test protocol prior to specimen collection. Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, 24 hour blood pressure monitoring, and perform ECG tracings. Perform special test collections, such as medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, and complete related documentation. Maintain client relationships, including responding to inquiries and following up on requests. Complete data entry of required patient demographics, requisition information, and other information related to processing test results. Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.
