Role The project engineer ensures the security and reliability of equipment pertaining to terminal operations and to Valero’s Canadian distribution assets, through numerous improvement projects and programs to which the incumbent is assigned.  S/he accordingly participates in formulating technical standards and ensuring their enforcement. S/he coordinates project implementation, and supervises construction/major maintenance, by integrating the work of designers, consulting engineers, contractors and outside suppliers. Responsabilities Prepare project quotes, design plans and specifications, request and examine bids, and participate in equipment procurement contract negotiations. Control costs in line with the budget and ensure compliance with schedules for projects under his/her supervision at all sites.  Participate in the assessment of capital expenditures and major maintenance costs to help draw up the strategic development plan. Identify, appraise and compare new technologies and make the appropriate recommendations.  Establish, update and enforce technical standards. Ensure and provide technical assistance to other sectors (Operations, Maintenance, HSE, etc.). Work closely with colleagues in Engineering and the other departments, offering, for example, expertise and technical support; establish equipment maintenance/upgrade programs, participate in monitoring environmental programs to optimize their efforts or to upgrade facility ergonomics. Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards in carrying out tasks. Develop contacts with the different levels of government, agencies, professional associations, suppliers, etc., in the various Canadian provinces. Undergraduate degree in electrical engineering or a relevant field. 5 to 15 years’ relevant experience in an industrial sector. Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec  General knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment. Bilingual (French and English). Able to manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously (project size from $100K to $30M). Leadership. Analytical and organizational skills and ability to adapt to change.
