This practice offers the opportunity to participate in hospitalist coverage for a 16-bed inpatient unit, Long-term care and a level 4 Emergency Department at the Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital as a part of its Collaborative Emergency Centre model of Care (CEC). The call schedule for the emergency department is currently 1:6. The position is compensated through the CEC hourly rate, offers competitive overhead, and is eligible for the current DHW incentive program. Responsibilities Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Examine patients and take their histories, order diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures Advise patients on health care, health promotion, and disease prevention Consultation and referral to other medical practitioners Act as a patient’s advocate Prescribe and administer medications and treatments, inoculations and vaccinations Report births, deaths, contagious and other diseases as per Nova Scotia Public Health requirements Expected Hours Full-time 1.0 FTE Qualifications Eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS) Eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) Community Details The largest region in Halifax is predominately known for its outdoor adventure of cycling, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hiking and camping. About This Opportunity Urgent Treatment Centres offer an alternate level of care for those who do not have a life-threatening medical emergency, but require urgent treatment. Some examples include: • Mild abdominal pain • Simple fractures • Limb sprains • Mild muscle strains/sprains • Mild headaches • Earaches • Minor infections • Skin and eye irritations • Mild asthma • Small lacerations • Mild mental health support • Minor respiratory issues Casual shifts available. Responsibilities Duties include full scope of practice as a family physician providing care to patients within the central zone in an Urgent Treatment setting.
