Funding is through the rural locum program with a guaranteed daily rate as well as remuneration for travel. The minimum guaranteed daily rate is $800 per day, with a $175 per diem daily rate. A locum physician can cover for another physician for a maximum of 30 days per year. South Shore Regional Hospital (SSRH) is a primary and secondary care hospital and designated district trauma centre. SSRH will see the instillation of a new MRI to be operational by April 2025. SSRH has 85 inpatient beds including medical, surgical, intensive care, obstetrics, and mental health units.
