Job Summary The Technician, Mechanical TS7 acts as a leading member of a team, working with other members in an attempt to reduce or eliminate non-value added activities or costs, while maintaining or improving quality, productivity, and timeliness throughout the project(s) being managed. The Technician, Mechanical TS7 acts as a trainer to assist junior technicians to maintain, troubleshoot, set-up, plan, install and rebuild production and associated machinery. Job Responsibilities Work closely with Production Technical Coordinators, to ensure adequate level of resource and help coordinate maintenance activities. Assist Production Technical Coordinators in resolving technical service issues with internal customers, such as Operations, Quality, Engineering, etc., and formulates recommendations to resolve matters which are beyond existing SOPs. Act as mentor/teacher to junior mechanics in training, troubleshooting, repair and rebuild of production and associated machinery. Ensure that all work is performed in a full compliance with Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP’s), SOP’s and in accordance with established Safety Standards. Recommend changes to designs, drawings and modifications of equipment or parts as required in conjunction with engineering and maintenance. Keep abreast of all changes and advances in company policies and new technology. Work independently with minimal supervision. Possess an in-depth understanding of equipment enabling you to be a subject matter expert for the purpose of investigations, audits, training, or otherwise as required. There may be the occasional requirement for some situational leadership opportunities for projects or troubleshooting exercises, as required. Works as a member of a team to achieve all outcomes. We currently have a Regular Full-Time opportunity for a Mechanical Technologist in the Medical Physics at our Bayview Campus. Hours of Work: Weekdays: Days, Evenings, 8 hrs, As per schedule Summary of Duties Design equipment required by the Medical Physics Department, Radiation Therapy Department, Radiation Oncology Department, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, research clients, and external clients Utilize 3D modeling software to design and create components and assemblies to satisfy project requirements, and to create technical drawings for manufacturing Program, set up, and operate CNC mill and CNC lathe Prototype components for in-house and external customers Manufacture components and small production runs of components Perform scheduled preventive maintenance for radiotherapy treatment machines, troubleshoot and assess medical linear accelerator malfunctions, perform emergency repairs and general repairs Install and calibrate laser systems for patient positioning Order supplies and maintain adequate supply inventory and consult with sales representatives as required Other duties as assigned Qualifications/Skills Successful completion of a recognized Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma or equivalent Licensed journeyman or Apprentice Machinist, Tool & Die Maker, or equivalent with additional five years related practical machine shop experience Demonstrated advanced competencies with respect to mechanical aptitude, mechanical design, creativity, and machine shop skills Proficient in using CAD Software (SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor) Proficient in operating, set up and programming CNC machines (mill & lathe) Programming experience with CAM software (Mastercam) Proficient in operating manual mill, manual lathe, and other shop equipment Excellent understanding of technical specifications, engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing Demonstrated competencies in hydraulics systems, electrical knowledge, writing skills, computer literacy, and manual dexterity Proven proficiency in English grammar, with excellent verbal and written communication and comprehension skills.
