Qualifications: • Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario required• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support required• Current NVCPI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) required • BScN preferred• Post Graduate education in Psychiatric Nursing preferred• Current Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing preferred Skill, Ability and Experience: • Ability to apply critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution and prioritization skills to nursing duties required • Basic proficiency in the use of computers required• Knowledge of the Mental Health Act required• Possess strong knowledge of Nursing Process as related to varying Psychiatric conditions from acutely to chronically ill adult, children, adolescent and Psychogeriatric patients required• Ability to work effectively with staff of community agencies required• Ability to demonstrate effective role modeling and communications skills used to assist patients in identifying problems and modifying behaviours required• Demonstrates ability to access and refer clients to appropriate service (ie.: PACT, CMHA, Sarnia Lambton Centre for Children and Youth, CAS, Sarnia Police, Family Counseling Centre) required• Two (2) years’ recent experience in In-Patient Psychiatric nursing preferred• Knowledge of Resident assessment Instrument-Mental Health preferred• Highly developed crisis assessment and intervention skills preferred• Experience with electronic nursing documentation preferred Principal Duties: • Provides appropriate nursing care and teaching to Mental Health patients• Participates in unit/department and Hospital Quality Improvement initiatives• Completes continuing education requirements as necessary• Acts as a coach, mentor, resource and positive role model for new staff and students• Other related duties as assigned Selection will be made on the basis of skill, ability, experience and qualifications as per Article 10.07 of the ONA Collective Agreement The material contained herein is provided for informational purposes only.
