Much of your effort will be dedicated to clinical orthopedic surgery teaching and small animal surgery activities, including managing small animal patients and consultation in the Ontario Veterinary College-Health Sciences Centre (OVC-HSC). Orthopedic surgery experience will be regarded favorably, and flexibility to support the soft tissue surgery service, when required, is considered an asset. The proportion of clinical service time spent in orthopedic or soft tissue surgery is negotiable. On-call duties will be remunerated in addition to base salary, and the schedule will be shared with other faculty members in the surgery section, necessitating some orthopedic and soft tissue surgery after hours. The remaining time is to be spent on scholarly and service activities. The candidate is expected to develop and participate in independent or collaborative research. The successful candidate is expected to mentor and supervise small animal surgical residents and graduate students on a rotating basis. The successful candidate will have most of their effort dedicated to professional client services and clinical teaching of students, interns, and residents for large animal surgery patients in the OVC Health Sciences Centre, including participation in out-of-hours emergency duty equitably with other section members. The remaining effort will be spent on scholarly activity, including independent or collaborative research, graduate student supervision, and service activities. Faculty have access to equine research funding through Equine Guelph and other granting agencies. The OVC Large Animal Hospital caseload is primarily equine (90%) with some bovine, small ruminant, porcine and camelid patients. The Department of Clinical Studies and the OVC Health Sciences Centre (OVC HSC) have a full spectrum of board-certified specialists available for consultation and/or support, and the surgery service is supported by three to four surgery residents and seven rotating interns.
