About the Role The Manufacturing Engineer works closely with staff specialists/customers/suppliers to lead the improvement of existing product press equipment. The Manufacturing Engineer utilizes the APQP/CFT process to contribute to the smooth launch and implementation of projects and /or EC changes, meeting all critical deadlines and customer requirements. The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the project, from its inception through PPAP, production and beyond. Your Responsibilities Must be capable of managing and leading projects from inception to completion - timing, concept, feasibility, design, construction, try-out, launch, buy-off, budget, prototype programs and engineering changes. Prepares reports, charts, and other documentation required for engineering records and projects focusing on plant Key Performance Indicators. Works closely with other departments and customers to design solutions to improve production processes, reduce downtime, increase O.A., ergonomic design, and economic viability of our operation. Coordinate and work with contracted Engineer to ensure that stamping equipment meets all of the Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews (PSHSR) requirements. Managing bank-builds for any necessary Eng changes with container concepts and maximizing layout utilization. Coordinate with the CFT to facilitate problem solving sessions for internal Non-conformances and external customer complaints pertaining to Stamping. About the Role Develop, implement and support efficient and capable manufacturing processes and associated systems, controls and procedures for all new or revised products within assigned areas of responsibility. This position will be located at our Burnaby facility where the successful candidate will be in a Senior Engineering role working closely in the CCM production process areas as part of Ballard's Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) Manufacturing team.Responsibilities: Commission and qualify new equipment and work cells identified as key project deliverables to meet Operations strategic plan that will involve technical discussions with external equipment suppliers, holding technical reviews and status updates with key stakeholders, collaborating with Maintenance team and contractors during installation. Support CCM manufacturing processes; optimize process for safety, quality, yield, and capacity by collaborating with upstream and downstream process leads. Lead and execute continuous improvement projects to reduce process cycle time, cost, and to improve capacity, quality. Validate and communicate changes to assist in capacity and demand forecasting. Lead and close out Quality related items such as Non-Conformity Reports and 8D investigations by finding root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurring problems. Generate, maintain, and update engineering documentations, including specifications, process flow diagrams, control plans, work instructions etc. Timely release of new or modified process documents, following internal change management process, to ensure uninterrupted operations. Train and update Production teams on new findings from quality issues, implementation of a process change, and revised documents issued to the shop floor such as work instructions. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in engineering preferably in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Mechatronics. Professional Engineering designation (or eligibility) is an asset. 7 - 10 years of manufacturing or process development experience. Strong communication, observation, and analytical skills to troubleshoot process and quality-related issues. Experience with engineering practices such as Lean Six Sigma, FMEA, Design of Experiment, SPC, noise factor analysis, Kaizen, 5S, and familiarity with automotive industry standards such as ISO and IATF certification process are an asset. Knowledge of technical documentation related to manufacturing, including use of control plan, FMEA, process flow diagram, SOP, process and product specifications, setup checklist, equipment requirement, facility drawing etc. Excellent written and oral communication skills supported by strong data analysis skill (using Excel or other statistical software such as Minitab). Strong interpersonal skills and excellent team player with experience working in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment. Knowledge of design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Machine shop skills and ability to work hands on with machinery is considered an asset.
