Heavy Duty Mechanic

Job Purpose or ScopeThis position will perform routine maintenance and repair work on vehicles (buses, vans etc.) which adheres to First Transit standards. This may include but is not limited to tire maintenance, fulfilling service calls for repair, conducting visual inspections of vehicles and related work as assigned. Performs work under direct supervision. Handles basic issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher level staff. All work is performed with a commitment to safety. We offer VERY competitive pay for this position - $51.54 per hour base rate + $4 premium per hour! He or she is responsible for repairing and maintaining machinery and mechanical equipment such as motors, pumps, conveyors, belts, fans, etc. He or she is responsible for examining mechanical equipment to diagnose problems, disassemble machines and repair or replace broken parts, adjust functional parts of mechanical devices as necessary, clean and lubricate parts, order replacement parts, inspect completed repairs, perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures, order new parts and equipment. RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES Check, report, repair any and all equipment failures Job changes, tests complete to highest efficiency and highest quality Product handling equipment set-ups and repairs Grinding equipment repairs Vacuum repairs Repairs to vacuum loading equipment Trouble shooting equipment to component level Diagnosing machine problems Installing equipment and auxiliary equipment as required Repairing of component failure (i.e. Hydraulic pumps, valves, Pneumatic valves) Fabrication of parts from drawings Repairing of Tool room equipment Rebuilding of equipment (i.e. Molding machines, Grinders, Pumps) Responsible for housekeeping in the plant interior and exterior Responsible for procedural plant shut-downs and start-ups Ability to operate new equipment Updating and keeping logs for all new equipment Maintaining files for equipment Must be able to operate tow motor QUALIFICATIONS Certified Millwright (or equivalent) Ability to read hydraulic, electrical pneumatic schematics Intermediate to advanced computer knowledge Ability to program CNC machines Tool & Die skills are an asset Safety training Must have successfully completed grade 12 level of education 5 years working in a manufacturing environment Ability to work within a team oriented environment SHIFT AVAILABLE _________________________________________________________ Monday - Thursday 10:00 pm - 8:30 am Friday - Sunday 7:30 am - 8:00 pm
