Over the next 8 years, the building will be renovated to repair and replace crumbling mortar, aging water pipes and outdated mechanical electrical and safety systems, to install communications and security systems to meet the needs of the 21 st century, and to ensure the building is seismically stable. In addition, a new visitor centre will be constructed to improve visitor experience and enhance security on the iconic site.The ChallengeOttawa is in a major seismic zone, which will present a significant technical challenge for our structural team faced with the complete seismic stabilization of a building of such size and historical importance without impacting any of its functions or heritage integrity.
