Water Technician (Casual)

Closing Date: April 12, 2024 Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, Maintenance & Projects, the Water Technician/Water Treatment Operator is responsible for assisting with commissioning and operating the Drainage Water Treatment Plant (DWTP) seasonally, monitoring the seepage collection and other site systems, responding to alarms, conducting maintenance activities at the DWTP, performing site security checks, and conducting geotechnical dam inspections at the Sullivan Mine. In addition to these duties, the Water Technician/Water Treatment Operator is responsible for conducting surface and groundwater sampling and assisting with data management and interpretation to support closure activities. The role also supports water treatment operations or environmental sampling at other legacy properties throughout BC, Quebec, and NT and may require travel and field activities up to 3-4 weeks in duration. The successful candidate would work in conjunction with other operators employed by Teck on a rotating shift who operate the DWTP and conduct inspections and monitoring of the seepage collection system. The position is in Kimberley, BC. The DWTP is operated seasonally on a 24/7 basis, typically March-June and August-October, and is the primary duty for this position. Other site monitoring duties occur daily throughout the year. Dayshift and nightshift is normally 12 hours where the operator performs dual function of seepage collection monitoring and plant operation. When the plant is not operating, dayshift is typically 10 hours. Nightshift is typically 12 hours when the DWTP is operating. Position may involve flexible hours of work with occasional changes to job requirements including on-call duties. Reporting to the Sr. Manager, the Project Technician Design Lead tracks design packages for submission to the client. The Project Technician Design Lead will communicate any delays in the design schedule to management proactively and find solutions to alleviate the issue(s). The successful candidate will also coordinate any design package submission or comments delays, and coordinate design review comments between Construction and Performance Team to the Designers to ensure closeout of comments in the design package. What You'll Do Here: Track design packages for submission to the client and collaborate with document controllers for their timely delivery. Support the Project Manager in preparing a schedule that meets client expectations. Communicate any delays in the design schedule proactively to the Project Manager and find solutions to mitigate; keep track of all delays and associated claims with design consultants. Communicate timelines and expectations with Project Designers and Project Technicians. Coordinate with Clients document control team any design package submission or comments receipt delays. Coordinate design review comments between Project Engineers, Project Designers, and Project Technicians to ensure accurate closeout of comments in the design packages. Collect information on a weekly and monthly basis for updating the progress reports. Coordinate suppliers info with Design Team and ensure their delivery to the client. Coordinating design quality aspects with the team and help preparing for design quality audits with QA/QC. Promote any changes in the process that will improve efficiency and quality of design packages. Respond effectively to Project Designers and Project Technicians enquiries/requests in efforts to support design process. Assist design team to proceed on time as planned. Develop optimised solutions and reduce scopes for cost minimisation. Organize training between Project Designers and Project Technicians. What You Bring to the Team: Post-secondary education in Electrical/Civil Engineering or Architectural program would be considered an asset. Minimum five years of design experience with utility projects, specifically telecommunications, hydro, and gas. Minimum three years of managerial experience is required. Must be familiar with pole line analysis. High proficiency with AutoCAD software and experience customizing AutoCAD, scripts, tools, and menus. Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate with others a must. An understand of CSA and Hydro One standards is considered an asset. Substantial understanding of reviewing electrical/civil engineering drawings and site plans. Excellent safety and attendance record and previously demonstrated strong safety awareness. You will participate in relevant CCIL certifications as needed, and ensure prompt and accurate testing and reporting of results You will complete accurate and concise data gathering for a variety of test methods in a manner suitable for efficient data entry of test results to produce a final and accurate report. You will support equipment calibration, maintenance and general housekeeping requirements to maintain a safe working environment in the laboratory. You will support sample management and the safe materials handling practices required for shipping, receiving, logging, handling, storage and disposal of samples. You interact with staff in the Office including field technicians and technologists, administrative and professional staff, as well as with some clients. What you'll bring to WSP: Successful completion of high school or post-secondary technical education in Civil Engineering/Technology or related discipline Experience working in a soil laboratory is preferred but not required. Willingness to learn CCIL laboratory certification processes, equipment maintenance and calibration, and lab proficiency testing programs.
