Identify and establish co-ordination requirements with participating work disciplines; provide functional guidance and direction to other supervisors and work groups pertinent to all matters of work assessment, including safety, resourcing issues and scheduling. 5.Assess, plan and schedule distribution work, including the forestry program and lines maintenance. Based on future needs establish annual work program, prepare budget, monitor program status and report progress. Assign appropriate portions of work program to subordinate supervisors. These include but are not limited to: perform formal Job Safety Analysis; Ensure safety meetings are carried out for all members of the crew on a regular basis; Ensure crew is aware of all recognized hazards, knowledgeable in use of protective equipment and using safe work procedures. Initiate corrective action when safety deficiencies occur. Assist in developing safe work procedures. Carry out field investigations on accidents and report to Manager. 9.Assign Work to Crew. Ensure unplanned high priority work is addressed in accordance with work planning and procedures. Discuss work assignments and schedule with staff, highlight problem areas and provide direction on job procedures. Ensure staff have the necessary trade related training, experience, qualifications and knowledge in order to carry out the tasks. Identify and recommend further training as required. Act as the Controlling Authority for all distribution system work protection. 10.Monitor work in progress. Periodically visit job site locations and make direct contact with staff to ensure safe work procedures are in use, safe conditions exist, staff conduct is acceptable and the quality and quantity of work is up to expectations. Initiate corrective action where necessary. 11.Provide necessary reports to the Manager, both verbal and written, on equipment conditions, work in progress, personnel, materials and job activities. Initiate document changes to distribution systems and equipment as a result of work performed by the crew. Estimate, monitor and close work orders; providing the required work accomplishment and financial data. Be accountable for work accomplishment and cost variance explanations. 12.Ensure availability of appropriate tools and materials. Initiate their procurement and when necessary expedite the delivery from suppliers to ensure appropriate levels of materials and supplies are available to meet work program needs. Ensure tools and equipment are in good working condition and arrange for maintenance as required. 13.Respond to staff's technical concerns. Discuss work related technical problems, as identified by the staff, to determine necessary course of action. 14.Ensure that new work methods and equipment are effectively introduced to the crew. Develop procedures and instructions on .equipment and tools as required. Make recommendations for changes in work methods and equipment. 15.Plan, administer and monitor outside contractors and resources in support of lines, meter reading, forestry, and technical services. Decide work to be contracted, arrange tenders and recommend awards. Routinely monitor work in progress, check for quality and safe work practices and take corrective action where necessary.
