Junior Unit Cell Engineer/ Applied Scientist

Ballard has a regular full-time position available for a Junior Unit Cell Engineer/Applied Scientist* at our Burnaby location. The successful candidate will work within the Unit Cell Engineering team to support the development of Unit Cell designs for new products and designs already in production. The highly cross-functional role requires coordination with Research, Advanced Manufacturing, Operations, and other Product Engineering teams.Responsibilities: • Prepare and release engineering documentation (e.g. analysis reports, engineering drawings, specifications, and DFMEA) • Collaborates with other teams and team members to design and develop unit cells based on product and process requirements • Work with test engineers to ensure alignment between analysis and verification data • Extracts, analyzes and summarizes test data into reports and presentations • Participates in the entire product lifecycle from prototype to production and contributes to the continuous improvement of the product • Develops predictive models to explain the physics of the unit cellRequirements: • Must hold an Applied Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Mechatronics, or a related field • 1-3 years of experience in a relevant industry • Excellent time management, organizational skills and attention to detail • Demonstrated knowledge of structural design, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid flow design • Excellent written and verbal communication skillsPreferences: • Previous background with fuel cells and/or fuel cell systems • Experience supporting simulation work such as FEA, CFD, and Multiphysics analyses • Product development experience • Experience developing predictive physics-based engineering models • Experience with engineering tools such as DFMEA, PFMEA, and 8DThe typical hiring range for this position is CAD 60,000 - CAD 75,000 per annum.
