Summary Reporting to the Manager of Transportation and working under their supervision and guidance, the Mechanic performs skilled maintenance and repair work on a variety of school district vehicles and equipment for the district at the journeyman level.Working with a Preventative Maintenance Program, the Mechanic may adjust the work schedule, given departmental guidelines and the repair requirements that arise. The mechanic keeps records of inspections and repairs. The mechanic supervises the work of a non-certified mechanic, who assists with routine maintenance and repair tasks, and also helps the mechanic with heavy or big jobs. The mechanic has considerable scope for the exercise of independent judgment in determining the repairs required and the methods to be used. The job requires that changes be recommended to established methods or procedures. Work involves a choice of methods or procedures or sequence of operation. Unusual problems are referred to the Transportation Manager.
