This position will mentor and motivate a planning team that works effectively and efficiently with other departments. Conceptual design and production scheduling of mining areas to ensure long term safety and production goals can be achieved and sustained. Safety & Sustainability Expectations Align with Fatality Risk Management protocols at all Newmont sites Be proactive with respect to safety and by incorporating best industry practices into mine designs. Ensure regulatory and inter-company procedural compliance. Ensure the planning group works safely, striving to achieve zero harm to people and property Essential Duties Promoting Safety and Sustainability Promote innovation and continuous improvement in safety by reviewing existing engineering designs and implementing new designs. Develop plans and designs for regulatory compliance and compliance to Company policies, procedures and standards. Promote and adhere to Company safety policies. Mine Planning, Scheduling and Mine Design Become proficient with monthly cadence of mine scheduling tasks. Schedule and review mine planning and mine design to increase value to operation. Optimize production and minimize dilution through mine designs and production scheduling. Provide guidance to operating departments to maximize production, plan their activities and accurately measure key mining parameters. Oversee planning activities to ensure layouts are safe, effective and on time. Assist mine planning teams with economic analyses for designated ore zones to optimize margins. Complete stope reconciliations to verify quality and identify opportunities for improvement. Create longhole drill designs as required for the mine plan to support the mine planning team. Strategic Planning Maintaining, reporting and monitoring of production statistics and performance to ensure the property’s goals and objectives are achieved. Participate in strategic planning at the departmental level, providing input on areas to increase value and optimize use of resources. Infrastructure planning in order to meet the strategic mine plan. Training & Experience Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and in good standing order with PEO, or equivalent in other jurisdictions. A Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or equivalent engineering degree. 3 -5 years of mine engineering experience. Would be an asset but not required Be technically competent and have a good understanding of U/G longhole mining method Strong Deswik Skills - (CAD, IS and Scheduler) Able to mentor and motivate the planning team. Have strong communication and people skills. Be focused, clear, and decisive. Able to impact and influence in order to gain the alignment of the Technical Services team and operations. Ability to effectively establish priorities and help to align upcoming work to planning staff.
