Position OverviewThe Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for an Equity Diversity Inclusion (EDI) Education Specialist. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 2 years (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.Working within the Office of Professionalism, Equity, and Diversity (OPED), the CSM Equity Diversity Inclusion (EDI) Educational Specialist will provide expertise in strengthening the Cumming School of Medicine's (CSM) cultural literacy in EDI, as well as its core educational mandate by ensuring that equity, diversity, and inclusive principles and practices are intentionally and holistically incorporated into curricula; teaching, selection, and assessment activities; and learning and teaching environments throughout the School.  The nature of the work requires the incumbent to have a demonstrated ability to set priorities, act decisively and to exercise a high degree of initiative and judgment on a wide range of issues, using discretion and maintaining confidentiality in the execution of their duties.  This position will require strong organizational skills in order to collaborate across portfolios and coordinate tasks and timelines.The incumbent will work closely with the OPED Program Coordinator, as well as members of the Office of Faculty Development and Performance, Indigenous Local and Global Health Office, the CSM Director Educational Operations and CSM Education Leads. Works collaboratively with Program Managers, Medical Directors, Clinical Educators, Nurse Clinicians, staff nurses, and others members of the interdisciplinary team to pro-actively move nursing practice forward at the regional, provincial, and national levels. As a Clinical Nurse Specialist with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:Be responsible for providing leadership and expert advice and care in the area of oncology, nursing clinical practice and advancing care through professional development, education, communication, innovation, consultation and research.Be consistent with the policies, standards and objectives of VCH and the health service delivery area, maintains administrative responsibility and authority while participating in decision-making, goal setting, policy development and program planning designed for improving the quality of acute care services.Be responsible for standards of practice, stays current with literature on nursing practice and promotes the advancement of a research, theory, and evidence-based autonomous practice of nursing.Facilitate the provision of oncology services across the continuum of care collaborating with acute and cancer care partners through the support for, and participation in, quality and utilization improvement initiatives.Provide leadership, expert consultation and navigation to clients and families/significant others as well as staff. Work collaboratively with Directors, Physicians, Managers, nurses and other members of the interdisciplinary team.QualificationsEducation & ExperienceMasters degree in Nursing; plus current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).A minimum of five (5) year’s recent related experience working in a health care setting with a focus in Assisted Dying Program and in a progressive leadership role.Canadian Nurses Association certification in a related specialty or membership in related provincial, national and/or international professional association(s) in Assisted Dying Programs preferred.Knowledge of Federal legislation and Provincial safeguards related to MAiD essential.Experience with complex care environments and 2 years experience as a CNS preferred.Experience supporting quality initiatives, supporting research, and integrating evidence into practice is an asset.Knowledge & AbilitiesEffectively collaborates to build relationships that promote the achievement of cooperative goals and contribute to an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.Develops and maintains strong relationships with key internal and external partners to promote and enhance services provided with trauma informed, cuturally safe approach to equity, diversity and indigenous culturally safety.Professionally consults to enable the successful sharing of expertise with caregivers, patients/clients, families/significant others, other members of the public, and colleagues.Proficiently provides and vigilantly evaluates education/orientation on complex advanced practices and abilities to ensure skills levels are acquired or maintained by team members to meet overall practice and care standards.Utilizes expert acute clinical evaluation skills to assess needs of the patient/client and their families/significant others.Skillfully, and in consultation with academic institutions and professional bodies, identifies/develops discipline specific standards for teaching and education.Collaboratively leads in the identification, planning and implementation of ongoing activities to support research initiatives.Effectively leads and directs staff by providing a work environment that fosters motivation and respectful relationships, and enables decision-making.Exhibits advanced verbal, written, and technological communication and presentation skills when disseminating information/advice and/or promoting the use of research findings.Applies knowledge of a wide range of cross-cultural and diversity issues within a health care environment.Closing StatementThe hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
