WSP is currently seeking an Electrical Design Technologist to join our Electrical Buildings team, located at our Victoria office. WSP's electrical engineering team in Victoria engages in various projects in the commercial, industrial, healthcare, educational, light industrial and transportation sectors in BC and the Yukon. Reporting to an electrical Project Manager, this position will be responsible for preparing electrical designs and documentation including modelling, drafting and calculations, construction reviews and administration. A day in the life: You'll be using your expertise to design electrical systems for a wide variety of building types and locations throughout BC and the Yukon (having your PSPC Reliability clearance would be a huge asset!). You will be contributing to a design team of electrical engineers and technicians, focused on technical solutions, developing the electrical design, communicating with the client and other design professionals, and preparing project drawings and specifications. You will be working on the design of power distribution (normal and backup power), infrastructure, lighting, fire alarm, data and security systems for buildings in the health care and institutional/commercial sectors. You'll be developing the electrical building information model in collaboration with the architectural, structural and mechanical designers. You'll be ensuring the electrical design complies with the BC Building Code, the Canadian Electrical Code, and other codes as required. Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Engineer will be a key member of the engineering team for building and leading EV infrastructure projects. We are looking for a Design Engineer who will help us with both EV fleet infrastructure site designs and advance our EV charging products, systems, and applications. On a daily basis, you will carry out various engineering tasks, such as performing calculations, converting field sketches into construction drawing packages, as well as research to ensure our systems meet the various standards. What You'll Do Here: Provide Engineering Design, review, and analysis of EV Charging infrastructure projects Manage engineering projects and deliver them on time, define customer needs and requirements Produce detailed CAD drawings for the electrical design, including Single Line Diagrams, electrical details, wiring diagrams, underground cable details, site layouts for EV charging stations, and other projects as required Coordinate with other discipline engineers, designers, and CAD staff as part of a multidisciplinary team Complete electrical calculations, cable schedules, demand load calculations, etc. Carry out site assessments and surveys, to determine project feasibility Prepare site assessment reports, cost estimates, material take-offs Submit applications for Utility, ESA, and City permits if required Ensure that installations and applications are in line with customer needs and safety standards Collaborate with engineers and technicians to design and apply new system processes Perform quality and performance analysis on new and legacy depots we installed or maintain Summarize data and report on test results Examine needs on new equipment, calculate costs and help prepare budgets Travel to project sites for product reliability evaluation and/or failure root cause analysis Travel to engineering/manufacturing facilities to review product design and manufacture, and to field sites to review installation, operation, and maintenance Manage stakeholder relationships to develop new business opportunities and promote complementary services What You Bring to the Team: Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering and 5+ years work experience in commercial and industrial sector, or equivalent Proficiency designing electrical & power distribution systems in AutoCAD or Revit, with Revit being preferred Experienced in coordinating with Utility for transformer/power upgrades and primary/secondary service infrastructure Perform electrical engineering study & breaker settings (EasyPower, SKM, ETAP), perform electrical lighting calculations (photometrics and comcheck) Must have experience in project management of engineering design projects.
