Business address: 20 Carlson Court, Suite 105 Toronto, Ontario M9W 7K6 Title of position: TBM Operator NOC: NOC 73400 Heavy Equipment Operators Location of Work: Bowmanville, Ontario and across Canada Office Location: Work is located at 1 Holt Road South, Bowmanville, Ontario, L1C 3Z8 and other offices in the Greater Toronto Area Terms of Employment: This is a full-time, permanent position Employment Conditions: Day, Morning, Evening, Rotational Shift Work Start Date: As soon as possible Number of positions: 2 Travel Requirements: Travel will be required to Aecons sites throughout Canada Language: Must speak, read, and write in English Key Responsibilities TBM Operator is responsible to maintain the line and grade of the tunnel while steering the TBM, as well as fully operate the Slurry Tunnel Boring Machine (STBM). The duties of the TBM Operator include, but are not limited to: Maintain line and grade of the tunnel, possessing extensive knowledge of TBM tunneling guidance system and ring prediction program Responsible for TBM operations in accordance with the manufactures guidelines Maintenance of face pressure within the bulkhead and bubble Ensure accuracy of specified thrust load for each ram or group of rams to avoid cracking of the segmental lining Monitoring grease consumption for the bearing sealing system to seal against face pressure, hydrostatic and annular grout pressure Responsible for monitoring the excavated material throughout the mining cycle to minimize the risk of over breaks Ensure building tolerances are in compliance with applicable regulations specified in the contract Implementation of the annular grouting procedure behind the secondary lining Responsible for the operation of the slurry circuit Assist mechanical team with assembly and disassembly of the TBMs before the initial drive as well as cutting head and cutting tool inspection Responsible for identifying and communicating any and all safety hazards Overseeing and conducting TBM and SEM work to ensure compliance with all assignments, project policies and procedures; Working with Foremen on productivity issues and monitoring work performance, working with the Foreman and crews to overcome challenges; Assisting Foreman with translating drawings, specifications and work requirements into a prioritized work plan; Contributing to the development of a construction plan; Working with Superintendents to identify equipment and labour resource requirements; Ensuring work completed meets quality standards and completion of HSE inspections and reports. Document reporting of and maintaining in good repair all company owned and rented tools, equipment and assets; Driving quality, efficiency, and productivity of work crews; Promoting safety in all activities and engaging in safe work plan development, hazard assessments, FLRAs and mentorship with crew; Providing guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections; Completing, inspecting, and tracking project specific forms as required; To successfully carry out this role, the TBM Operator must have several years of experience operating slurry TBMs. Required Knowledge and Skills Education Secondary School or equivalent; Practical training, classroom or simulation; and Working knowledge of English. Work experience MOLs required basic safety awareness training; 2-3 years experience operating slurry TBMs. 5 years experience operating TBMs. 2-3 years experience overseeing and supporting tunnelling construction projects including but not limited to subways, water collector tunnels, airports and highways; 2-3 years experience supervising multimillion-dollar tunnelling construction projects; and 2-3 years experience in tunnelling management. Compensation and Benefits $53 per hour. Shift workers will receive a shift premium in addition to their regular hourly rate. Employees/TBM Operators will be required to become members of Labourers International Union of North America, Local 183. (Monthly Membership Dues are $35.00 and Working Dues are 3% of Gross earnings) 37.5 hours/week and subject to overtime Employees/Members of Local 183 receive Vacation & Statutory Holiday Pay, Health & Welfare Benefits, Pension etc. for a Total Wage Package of $76.55 per hour (not including Supervisor Premium) Working Conditions and Environment Primary work location at 1 Holt Road South, Bowmanville, Ontario, L1C 3Z8 with work and travel required throughout Ontario Project, training and business-related travel may be required. Aecons Major Projects West division is hiring a Construction Manager for our St. Marys Interchange Project in Winnipeg, MB. This is an important project for Aecon and the community as it will provide critical infrastructure to a growing city and better access to important economic corridors. The contract is a $100 million design-build contract for the construction of an interchange at Perimeter Highway (PTH 100) and St. Marys Road. This position is a fly-in/out opportunity assigned to a 14/7 rotation with LOA provided. Reporting to the Project Director, the Construction Manager is responsible to provide leadership, supervise and coordinate operations on multiple construction sites and are responsible for the performance of their assigned Superintendents. They are directly responsible for, although not limited to, ensuring the safety of crew members, ensuring the productivity of crew members, following OH&S and Company policies, procedures and guidelines. The Construction Manager is a key participant in the relationship between the company, other contractors, the client and all other project stake holders. The Construction Manager is required to act in a professional manner that will strengthen these relationships in a positive way. Key Responsibilities Promote, lead and execute a Safety-Always culture for all employees, sub-contractors and consultants in compliance with Aecons Environmental Health and Safety Program and provincial occupational health and safety legislation. Promote safety in all activities and engage in safe work plan development, hazard assessments, FLRAs and mentorship with crew. Maintain a positive project culture and oversee / mentor the work of junior team members. Track and report project, quality control, resource requirements and customer or employee relations to the General Manager. Oversee multiple job sites and ensure Superintendent compliance with all assignments, project policies and procedures. Drive quality, efficiency and productivity of work crews. Direct Foremen on productivity issues and monitor the work performance, working with the Foreman and crews to overcome challenges. Follow project plans and budget while ensuring the Superintendent, Foreman and crews perform to meet production goals. Assist the Foreman to translate drawings, specifications and work requirements into a prioritized work plan. Understand the scope and sequencing of work, support Superintendent to plan and prioritize the work, effectively redirect crews and equipment to assigned tasks and minimize downtime on sites. Contribute to the development of a construction plan. Work with the Project Director to identify equipment and labour resource requirements. Work with the Project Director and Leads to periodically reassess daily goals to meet forecasted production, schedules and budgets. Support an inclusive employee relationship culture, and is accountable for adherence to policies that ensure a respectful and inclusive work environment. Build and maintain a strong functional team through instruction, training, coaching and team building. Ensure work completed meets quality standards, that preparation and submittal of required reports, documentation and logs are completed. Oversee the approval of daily production records and reporting on work progress, these include: Daily quality control inspections and checklists. Record and report of violations or disciplinary actions. HSE inspections and reports. Review Foreman records and track all rental items, ensure returns are completed and documented. Project specific forms/inspections/tracking as required. Approving field log each day and ensuring submittal of field log for each Foreman is completed daily. Reviewing field log with the Project manager/Leads to ensure accuracy of phase codes and reported items. Document reporting of and maintaining in good repair all company owned and rented tools, equipment and assets. Manage Superintendent and Foremen and hold them accountable for their responsibilities in administration and quality control. Required Knowledge and Experience Minimum 10 years of experience managing transportation or heavy civil construction projects of similar scope and complexity, in a self-performing environment Strong understanding of construction methodologies and practices gained through on site experience Well developed leadership and people management skills Experience with interchange construction; highway widening; and/or bridge construction preferred Thorough knowledge of the applicable OH&S legislation. Exceptional ability to multitask in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills. Proficient Computer skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.). Must Maintain a valid Class 5 Drivers License.
