The incumbent is the Shift Engineer, and as such must have through, in-depth knowledge of the entire plant’s operation. The Shift Engineer is responsible for ensuring safe and efficient delivery of all services to the campus. This first-class plant is operated around the clock and rotating shift work (some of which are 12-hour shifts) is required. Requirements of the position include: A Second Class Power (Operating) Engineer certificate combined with operating experience in a large utilities plant with gas/oil operation; operating experience in a centrifugal chiller plant; and experience with diesel engines and air compressors. Basic computer skills are also required. We encourage candidates with a minimum of four exams completed towards becoming a second class to apply. Responsibilities Establishes, develops and implements department goals, objectives and operational requirements consistent with the Organizations' strategic and operational objectives; reviews current operations and develops appropriate systems and processes to ensure effective and efficient operations of the assigned site (s) central steam and/or hot water heating production/distribution Utility Plant(s) including Mechanical Systems. Manages the operations, maintenance, and repair of the assigned site (s) central steam and/or hot water heating production/distribution Utility Plant(s) including Mechanical Systems. Provides operational leadership including maintenance oversight to the emergency generators. Develops and implements the annual operating and capital budget for the assigned site (s); responsible for monitoring expenditures, variance analysis and reporting; takes corrective actions as required. Manages the recruitment, mentoring and professional development of assigned staff and contract employees; supervises designated staff, determines staff schedules, provides work direction and assignment of duties to meet operational requirements; conducts employee performance reviews, coaching session and facilitation of goal setting with the employee; identifies training/educational requirements as needed. Investigates work and/or staff performance issues and initiates disciplinary action up to and including termination; participates in grievance process and other labour relation matters up to and including Step 3 grievances as an Employer representative; participates labour/management meetings and in the essential service designation processes for the assigned sites. We currently have an opportunity for Regular Full-time opportunity for Manager, Power Plant & Chief Operating Engineer in Plant Operations & Maintenance department.   Reporting to the Director of Plant Operations & Maintenance, the Manager, Power Plant & Chief Operating Engineer is responsible for the safe and ecient operation and maintenance of the 1st Class Central Utility Plant (CUP), HVAC, Plumbing and Medical Gas systems. Sunnybrook CUP systems include high pressure steam boilers (240,000#/hr), steam turbine and electric chillers (10,000 tons), back-up diesel generators (9.35MW) and a new (2021) state-of-the-art Cogeneration plant (8 MW GTG with 90,000 #/hr HRSG).   Summary of Duties: Monitors and oversees Steam Boiler Plant, Chiller Plant, Emergency Generators, HVAC, Plumbing and Medical Gas systems. Oversees supervisors and teams of operating engineers, HVAC mechanics and plumbers. Prioritizes, assigns and follows up on required tasks throughout the Hospital.  Implements operational and preventative maintenance plans for the Power Plant and Plumbing departments that support Hospital operations and reduce risk. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations, standards and hospital policies.  Monitors annual budget and manages within budget.
