The incumbant is to observe and comply with the Power Engineers Act for the Province of Manitoba.The incumbent will work closely with the Chief Engineer to provide support services to other maintenance personal as may be required. RESPONSIBILITIES: Overview: 1. Record in log book clearly and precisely, all happenings and information pertaining to the operation and progress of the plant, any abnormalities at the time of occurrence or when first noticed, and corrective action taken. 2. Manipulate valves to control the flow of water, fuel, steam, ect., for various operations. 3. Test boiler water and the usage of boiler water chemicals. 4. Perform maintenance in any part of the center on high pressure steam, chilled water, condensate lines, and compressed air systems. 5. Troubleshoot minor problems with industrial controls such as pneumatic, electric, or electronic. 6. Operates equipment in the plant. Regulates its output and performance safely and economically in a manner consistent with practices set forth by the Department of Labor and the Power Engineers Act.; 7. Reads and interprets basic diagrams, schematics and drawings of electric, electronic, and pneumatic controls and instruments for the purpose of understanding their operation as to be able to ascertain nature of any malfunctions and to make corrections and adjustments as necessary. 8. Perform routine operational system checks on equipment to ascertain its readiness. When in operation ensures that proper operating efficiency parameters are maintained at all operating loads. 9. Is responsible for chemical analysis on boiler, condenser water, chilled water, and ensures chemicals are added as per prescribed feed rates or as directed. Maintains complete, accurate, up to date water treatment logs and records. 10. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment. (e.g. piping, regulators, valves, pumps, controls, ect.). Checks and reports status of repairs on equipment as assigned. 11. Prepares boilers, tanks, and other equipment for inspection by opening manways, removing internals, and cleaning and flushing as may be necessary. 12. Ensures that all work areas, benches, counters and floors are kept clean, safe and orderly condition. Job assigned is not complete until area affected has been cleaned and tidied up. 13. Deals with emergency situations as they arise in the plant and or hospital. If incumbent is unable to cope with an emergency problem, it is his or her responsibility to call in people who are qualified to handle it. 14. Follows safety regulations in accordance with the Power Engineer’s Act, and the Steam and Pressure Plant Act for the province of Manitoba. 15. Must take extreme care in performance of tasks as in close contact with exposed high temperature piping, rotating equipment and high voltages. Work are is subject to high noise, temperature, and humidity. 16. Take stock of supplies and spare parts; accepts deliveries of parts. 17. Cleans and repairs boilers, and all related equipment. Tours to the hospital, PCH, Laundry, and crawlspaces for operational checks at specific intervals. 18. Responds to and manages fire alarms as designated. 19. Will carry out preventative maintenance on all equipment as assigned. 20. Monitors and maintains oxygen concentrator so that a supply of oxygen is available at all times. 21. Perform duties of plumbing, carpentry, welding, refrigeration, ventilation, air conditioning, painting and other maintenance as personal knowledge and skills permits. 22. What You'll Do Here: Support the construction organization to optimize the construction means and sequences, by reviewing the permanent design at 30%, 60%, and 90% to: check the constructability of the design, possibly proposing alternatives to improve the safety, feasibility and or the production rates Prepares and details the working sequences, the needed equipment in agreement with the construction teams and issues corresponding phasing documents to help the construction team prepare their work on site Responsible for the design of all methodologies, temporary works and site installations, in terms of safety, design adequacy, cost and production efficiency Required to provide all calculation notes and drawings necessary to implement the site construction methodologies, site installations and all temporary works In the circumstance where the design is subcontracted, the Methods and temporary works Engineer is responsible to manage the subcontractor in terms of scope, schedule and costs Responsible for verifying the installations and the temporary structures of subcontractors Review the comprehensive work packages and the temporary works inspection and test plans Provide engineering definition to drafting to develop layouts, models, drawings and procedures Design and stamp drawings for construction purposes (not mandatory) Ensure construction experience and feedback is incorporated into design reviews, design meetings, and communicated to the appropriate engineering design personnel Communicate technical requirements to internal and external customers through documentation, and customer meetings Ensures project is constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule and company/project policies May provide mentoring and coaching to other technical employees (not mandatory) Provides interpretation of plans, detail sheets, and specifications for contractors or craft supervision Help drive the company environmental health and safety programs at the project level, driving a safety-oriented approach to work What You Bring to the Table: Minimum 3 years related experience in construction and/or construction methods Professional Engineer (P.Eng).Civil preferred Experience of working in project teams during multiple project phases Fluent in French language for written and verbal communication Knowledge and experience in the study and development of construction methods Knowledge and experience in the design of temporary structures is an asset Knowledge and experience in geotechnical engineering is an asset Mastery of Autocad, the usual standards of drawing Knowledge of Civil 3D is an asset What Makes us Aecon Proud: Engaging and agile workplace culture, collaborative and inclusive teams Commitment to sustainability and to becoming a net-zero company by 2050 Investing in our people through a variety of learning and development programs such as Aecon University, BluePrint leadership program, and Project Management Academy Variety of wellness benefits, access to virtual health care, 100% employer-paid health and dental premiums, Employee Assistance Program, Best Doctors Program, and more.
