This department is responsible for three basic areas critical to welding within the company: 1. Developing, administering, and maintaining the welding program at a corporate level 2. Supporting new and in process project activities 3. Performing R&D, proposal work and supporting business development/proposals initiatives Staying at the forefront of welding technology is key to ensuring that Aecon welding activities maintain the high level of quality that is required in the nuclear industry. The welding center of excellence is a self-managed department which operates as a dedicated body within Aecon to be able to provide internal welding services to Aecon, as well as contract services to external customers. What You'll Do Here Oversee technical aspects of projects and initiatives undertaken by the welding COE department, specifically with regards to welding and manufacturing Manage, implement, and provide technical guidance to execute procedure qualification records for ASME, CWB and/or AWS welding codes Review and produce technical documentation in relation to welding fabrication Assist in developing, troubleshooting, designing, testing and training with various types of welding processes and pieces of equipment Assist with Aecon Nuclear welding school activities and classes (theoretical and hands on) Support of contract proposal efforts and review of customer supplied technical data Draw or sketch manufacturing concepts to communicate methods to fabricate structural weldments Communicate with welding wire (consumable) and welding equipment vendors to review, assess, procure and commission welding related equipment Review code of construction and customer technical requirements to provide technically accurate direction Manage budgets with respect to R&D budgets and production specific development efforts Make technical presentations to executives and customers as necessary to effectively communicate technical execution, problem resolution and other discussions Coordinate mechanical testing of PQRs, WPSs, WPQ and WMQs with local labs Make recommendations for continuous improvement of welding innovation at Aecon Nuclear What You Bring To The Team College and/or University degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience, specifically mechanical, materials, mechatronics, welding & robotics and other such technical programs with an emphasis on welding. Familiarization with ASME, CWB and AWS welding codes. Exposure to industry welding, and manufacturing knowledge. Previous experience is an asset. Practical hands on experience with manufacturing tools and welding is an asset. Familiar with welding principles. Closing: April 5, 2024 Reporting to the Manager, Geotechnical & Water, the Senior Engineer, Tailings & Mine Waste will support the geotechnical needs and run geotechnical projects at Teck's Legacy Properties. The scope includes tailings and water retaining structures, as well as waste rock dumps, at closed mine sites in Canada (with a focus on BC sites). This role is primarily based out of Kimberley, BC; however, flexibility in terms of location is possible. This position is suitable for someone who enjoys working outdoors and is willing to travel to sites within Canada. It is critical that the successful candidate wholly embraces Teck's health and safety culture and at no time puts safety as a secondary priority in any work undertaken. This is a 2-year contract position with the possibility of extension or transition into a full-time role. Responsibilities: Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures Stay ahead of geotechnical surveillance technology and recommend maintenance and upgrade to supervision programs based on that knowledge Lead all aspects of site(s) tailings governance programs, including instrumentation data and visual inspections Act as Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer at closed tailings facilities in Canada Provide technical mentorship and apply expertise with regard to tailings and water-retaining structures Coordinate and review work by external geotechnical consultants Participate in dam safety inspections and reviews, Independent Tailings Review Board reviews and Corporate governance reviews Coordinate internal reviews and engage with internal Teck senior expertise in a proactive manner Assist in the identification, mitigation and reduction of geotechnical hazards and risks Conduct geotechnical inspections as the need arises Implement recommendations from geotechnical inspections, reviews and audits Participate in dialogue with Communities of Interest (regulators, Indigenous peoples, communities, etc.) with respect to risk evaluations, emergency preparedness and responses, and risk mitigation projects Lead all aspects of short- and long-term projects related to geotechnical structures, including supervision of consultants and contractors Participate in annual tailings emergency response exercises and risk assessment workshops Assist with the implementation of Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) objectives for all tailings facilities, and ensure commitments are maintained Qualifications: At least 8 years of relevant and dynamic geotechnical experience, including a recent geotechnical role at an operating mine with responsibilities for tailings and water retaining structures Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Geological, Civil, Environmental, or Mining Engineering, preferably with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
