The Registered Nurse (RN) functions as a valuable member within both the CYMHP inpatient and emergency mental health services, providing care to children and youth with complex mental health issues. The registered nurse is key in leading patient care, including assessment of risk, mental status examination, crisis management, establishment of effective therapeutic relationships, utilization of developmentally appropriate approaches to care, implementation and evaluation of therapeutic interventions, and coordination of services. The RN offers mental health teaching to patients and families, demonstrates knowledge of all Ontario legislation that guides mental health care and is responsible for meeting the medical needs of clients, including medication management and education. The Registered Nurse contributes to new and ongoing research, quality assurance projects, and provides consultation/liaison to caregivers and community agencies.

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) for the Acute Medicine Program at the Hamilton General Hospital will be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario in the Extended Class-Adult, and will work within the scope of practice of the RN-EC provided by the College. Collaborating with interdisciplinary team members, and using a patient and family centered model of care.  The NP is responsible to: provide direct patient care, including the assessment and treatment of complex medical patients, coordination of care, discharge planning, and the coordination of related community and other resources for this patient population; tutor and mentor nursing and other health professional students as appropriate, and participate in continuing education activities to integrate the role of the NP in the program and academic settings; initiate, participate, and/or lead programs, presentations, publications, evaluations and other system changes to continue the enhancement of interdisciplinary care teams.  The Nurse Practitioner will work in partnership with General Internal Medicine, consultants, nursing and other members of the health care team to provide comprehensive medical assessment, management and education.

The ICU West is a 16 bed, level 3 tertiary and quaternary unit performing the highest volume of cardiovascular surgical procedures in the province.  Using a multidisciplinary and collaborative team approach, dedicated to the principles of patient-and family-centered care, the Registered Nurse coordinates and evaluates patient care and provides nursing care according to the Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario, and Standards of Practice for Critical Care Nurses in Ontario. Our nurses treat highly complex patients using innovative treatment modalities including Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), Impella, Intra-aortic Balloon Pump and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapies (CRRT).  The ICU also supports the Critical Care Response Team for the HGH site, bringing highly skilled, specialized, critical care nurses, as members of a multidisciplinary team, to offer support and consultation outside of the ICU.   As a Royal College Accredited training program and through our affiliation with McMaster University, we offer opportunities for learning and conduct world renowned research.

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) for the Pediatric Weight Management Program at McMaster Children’s Hospital will provide leadership and promote excellence in pediatric family centered nursing care through expert clinical practice, education, consultation and research. The NP would support the clinical activity of the Endocrinologists / Pediatricians and the associated patient care and interventions through the Pediatric Weight Management Program. The program is most focused in outpatient care, although occasional inpatient care occurs. Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team members, and using a patient and family centered model of care, the NP is responsible to: provide direct patient care, coordination of care, discharge planning, and the coordination of related community and other resources for this patient population; tutor and mentor nursing and other health professional students as appropriate, and participate in continuing education activities to integrate the role of the NP in the program and academic settings; initiate, participate, and/or lead programs, presentations, publications, evaluations, research initiatives and other system changes to continue the enhancement of interdisciplinary care teams. The NP will work in partnership with General Pediatrics, consultants, nursing and other members of the health care team to provide comprehensive medical assessment, management and education. The NP reports to the Director, Critical Care and Ambulatory Services, McMaster Children's Hospital, and the Chief of Nursing Practice.

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) for the Hematology service of McMaster Children’s Hospital will provide leadership and promote excellence in comprehensive care across the life spectrum of patients with inherited blood disorders - particularly Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia. Regarding providing comprehensive care, the NP will demonstrate excellent understanding of the inequities regularly encountered by populations experiencing inherited blood disorders – particularly Sickle Cell Disease – and will demonstrate experience working with these populations to mitigate these inequities and improve patient experiences and outcomes.  The Nurse Practitioner is a core member of the interdisciplinary Hemoglobinopathy Clinic team. They will engage in family-centered and holistic nursing care through expert clinical practice, education, consultation and research. The NP will support the clinical activity of the Hematology service and the associated patient care and interventions with a focus on care for Hemoglobinopathy patients. The NP will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and will be responsible to: provide direct patient care, coordination of care including transfusion therapy, discharge planning, education for patient, family and their communities, and the coordination of related community and other resources for this patient population. The NP will also be responsible to mentor nursing and other health professional students as appropriate, and participate in continuing education activities to integrate the role of the NP in the program and academic settings. This includes initiating, participating, and/or leading programs, presentations, publications, evaluations, research initiatives and other system changes to continue the enhancement of interdisciplinary care teams. 

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) for the Emergency Department at McMaster Children’s Hospital will provide leadership and promote excellence in pediatric family centered nursing care through expert clinical practice, education, consultation and research. The NP will work within a multidisciplinary team in an academic Emergency Department. The NP will be an active member of the frontline staff, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team members, and using a patient and family centered model of care to provide direct patient care, coordination of care, discharge planning, and the coordination of related community, and other resources for patients. The NP will tutor and mentor nursing and other health professional students as appropriate, and participate in continuing education activities to integrate the role of the NP in the program and academic settings.  The NP will work in partnership with various sub-specialists, consultants, nursing and other members of the health care team to provide comprehensive medical assessment, management and education.

The SHF is part of the Community & Population Health Program and approved to operate until March 2024. Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) recruited for the SHF are hired into permanent positions through the Nursing Resource Team (NRT).  The RPN will work as part of a multidisciplinary team within the SHF. Our SHF nurses are set-up for success and go through a comprehensive on-site orientation program, led by experienced health care professionals and educators. As a member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, the RPN coordinates and evaluates patient care and provides nursing care according to the standards of practice for RPNs.

The ICU West is a 16 bed, level 3 tertiary and quaternary unit performing the highest volume of cardiovascular surgical procedures in the province.  Using a multidisciplinary and collaborative team approach, dedicated to the principles of patient-and family-centered care, the Registered Nurse coordinates and evaluates patient care and provides nursing care according to the Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario, and Standards of Practice for Critical Care Nurses in Ontario. Our nurses treat highly complex patients using innovative treatment modalities including Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), Impella, Intra-aortic Balloon Pump and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapies (CRRT).  The ICU also supports the Critical Care Response Team for the HGH site, bringing highly skilled, specialized, critical care nurses, as members of a multidisciplinary team, to offer support and consultation outside of the ICU.   As a Royal College Accredited training program and through our affiliation with McMaster University, we offer opportunities for learning and conduct world renowned research.

The NP reports to the Director, Child and Youth Acute Health Care at McMaster Children's Hospital, and the Chief of Interprofessional PracticeThe Nurse Practitioner (NP) for the General Pediatric Department at McMaster Children’s Hospital will provide leadership and promote excellence in pediatric family centered nursing care through expert clinical practice, education, consultation and research. Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team members, and using a patient and family centered model of care, the NP is responsible to: provide direct patient care, coordination of care, discharge planning, and the coordination of related community and other resources for this patient population; tutor and mentor nursing and other health professional students as appropriate, and participate in continuing education activities to integrate the role of the NP in the program and academic settings; initiate, participate, and/or lead programs, presentations, publications, evaluations, research initiatives and other system changes to continue the enhancement of interdisciplinary care teams. The Oncology Unit (C3) is an active inpatient oncology facility providing a continuum of care for adults with solid tumor malignancies. C3 is committed to investing in our nurses’ professional growth and development with the goal of developing a community of specialized oncology nurses who will seamlessly provide care to our patients along the cancer continuum. Nurses will be offered a standardized orientation to enhance building a foundation of oncology knowledge as well as create confidence to care for patients with cancer. Nurses are also supported to achieve relevant, specialized nursing training and skills such as vascular access, chemotherapy certification, oncology nursing, and palliative care certification. In collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team and community agencies, the RN provides compassionate and dedicated quality care for patients and their families. 3Y is the inpatient Pediatric Surgical Unit at McMaster Children’s Hospital (MCH) that provides specialized care for children aged 0-17 for children who need pre and post-operative care, and children who require specialized GI care. 3Y prides itself on a friendly and welcoming environment with an emphasis on the wellbeing and mentorship of our nurses. 3Y is a dynamic, fast-paced unit that is committed to investing in our nurses’ professional growth and development with the goal of developing a community of specialized pediatric surgical nurses who will seamlessly provide care to our patients. As a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Registered Practical Nurse will apply their clinical expertise of pediatric diseases requiring surgical management to provide comprehensive nursing care to children 0-17 years as outlined within the practice standards and guidelines by the College of Nurses of Ontario. Nurses are set up for success and go through a comprehensive onsite orientation program, led by experienced health care professionals and educators to build a foundation of surgical knowledge as well as create confidence to care for pediatric patients.

Reporting to the Clinical Manager, Systemic Therapy and Community Oncology, the Registered Nurse accepts the privileges and responsibilities of authority, accountability and autonomy for patient care and professional development. The Chemotherapy Nurse will provide patient-centered nursing care for systemic treatment oncology patients (across multiple disease sites) and their families based on the values of respect, caring, innovation and accountability. Nursing Care is provided based upon competencies of direct comprehensive and supportive care, navigating the system, maintaining professional practice, and through collaborative and evidence-based nursing practice. The Chemotherapy Nurse utilizes expert knowledge of Systemic Therapy to provide initiation and safe administration of cytotoxic agents participating in the enforcement of the National Standards for Safe Administration of Cytotoxic Agents. The Chemotherapy Nurse is a facilitator for Clinical Trials and a resource for Outreach Community Clinics.
