Nurse Practitioner

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) for the Pediatric Weight Management Program at McMaster Children’s Hospital will provide leadership and promote excellence in pediatric family centered nursing care through expert clinical practice, education, consultation and research. The NP would support the clinical activity of the Endocrinologists / Pediatricians and the associated patient care and interventions through the Pediatric Weight Management Program. The program is most focused in outpatient care, although occasional inpatient care occurs. Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team members, and using a patient and family centered model of care, the NP is responsible to: provide direct patient care, coordination of care, discharge planning, and the coordination of related community and other resources for this patient population; tutor and mentor nursing and other health professional students as appropriate, and participate in continuing education activities to integrate the role of the NP in the program and academic settings; initiate, participate, and/or lead programs, presentations, publications, evaluations, research initiatives and other system changes to continue the enhancement of interdisciplinary care teams. Nurse Learner - Supervised Practice Experience Partnership (SPEP)

Participants in the SPEP program will gain relevant work experience under the supervision of an appointed preceptor for a minimum of 140 clinical hours. Practice hours may be extended, depending on individual learning needs. Regarding providing comprehensive care, the NP will demonstrate excellent understanding of the inequities regularly encountered by populations experiencing inherited blood disorders – particularly Sickle Cell Disease – and will demonstrate experience working with these populations to mitigate these inequities and improve patient experiences and outcomes.  The Nurse Practitioner is a core member of the interdisciplinary Hemoglobinopathy Clinic team. Clinical Extern - Nurse

Registered Practical Nurse - Medically Complex Care

The NP reports to the Director, Child and Youth Acute Health Care at McMaster Children's Hospital, and the Chief of Interprofessional PracticeThe Nurse Practitioner (NP) for the General Pediatric Department at McMaster Children’s Hospital will provide leadership and promote excellence in pediatric family centered nursing care through expert clinical practice, education, consultation and research. Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team members, and using a patient and family centered model of care, the NP is responsible to: provide direct patient care, coordination of care, discharge planning, and the coordination of related community and other resources for this patient population; tutor and mentor nursing and other health professional students as appropriate, and participate in continuing education activities to integrate the role of the NP in the program and academic settings; initiate, participate, and/or lead programs, presentations, publications, evaluations, research initiatives and other system changes to continue the enhancement of interdisciplinary care teams. The NP reports to the Director, Critical Care and Ambulatory Services, McMaster Children's Hospital, and the Chief of Nursing Practice.
