The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a crucial role on our mission driven team. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at McMaster Children’s Hospital is comprised of a Level III NICU, a Level IIc nursery and a neonatal transport team, providing medical and surgical care to neonatal patients and their families. Our NICU serves a broad geographic area within southern Ontario. The interdisciplinary team provides family-centered care with a strong focus on evidence-based best practice and continuous quality improvement. McMaster NICU is also actively involved in a number of collaborative quality improvement initiatives provincially, nationally and internationally. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a fast paced, complex and highly acute environment. The Registered Nurse is an integral member of the interdisciplinary team, working collaboratively in the Level III NICU and Level IIc nursery. The Juravinski Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a 25 bed tertiary care unit supporting multiple clinical programs including the regional programs for central-south Ontario. The ICU provides specialized levels of care to the hematology, oncology, orthopedic, medical and surgical patient populations, utilizing a multidisciplinary and collaborative team approach dedicated to the principles of patient and family-centered care.  Our ICU nurses are set up for success and go through a comprehensive onsite orientation program, led by experienced health care professionals and educators. As a member of the multidiscipline healthcare team, the Registered Nurse coordinates and evaluates patient care and provides nursing care according to the standards of practice for Registered Nurses in Critical Care.

C4 is an inpatient unit providing care for individuals with malignant hematological diseases. The primary modes of therapy are intensive chemotherapy, transfusion and antibiotic support for immunosuppression and stem cell transplantation. Unit Summary The Surgical Team at the General Hospital provides post-operative care to the critical and adult patient population. In this exciting and dynamic environment, our team supports tertiary and regional programs in cardiac, vascular and neurosciences and trauma providing both inpatient and same day surgery. Position Summary As a member of this specialty unit providing critical services, the PACU Registered Nurse is responsible for the planning, implementation and assessment of the post anesthetic patient care. The Registered Nurse will work as part of, and are supported by, a multi-professional team within the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). As a member of the multi-professional healthcare team, the Registered Nurse coordinates and evaluates patient care and provides nursing care according to the standards of practice for Registered Nurses.  PICU nurses provide medical and surgical intensive care, working collaboratively in both the Level 3 PICU and Level 2 step-down areas which are fast-paced, complex and highly technologically integrated environments. In addition to working within the unit, once the required experience is obtained, opportunities exist for the PICU Registered Nurses to complete advanced training to work within the Pediatric Critical Care Response Team (PACE), as well as become a member of the Pediatric Critical Care Transport Team, which provides land transport for critically ill children across southern Ontario.

E/F4 takes a patient & family-centered, evidence based approach to care and is known for integrating interventions to reduce the incidence of hospital harm indicators such as Sepsis, Central Line Associated Bloodstream Infections, Surgical Site Infections, and Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections. Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) working in these units help provide and advance patient care to allow for healthy populations. These fast-paced units provide an exciting environment with high acuity to enhance clinical knowledge and skill. This role works very closely with a large multi-disciplinary team such as Registered Nurses (RNs), Health Care Aides (HCAs), and many Allied Health professionals. They are frequently caring for stable patients with complex medical needs and demonstrate patient advocacy and a collaborative spirit.

3Y is the inpatient Pediatric Surgical Unit at McMaster Children’s Hospital (MCH) that provides specialized care for children aged 0-17 for children who need pre and post-operative care, and children who require specialized GI care. 3Y prides itself on a friendly and welcoming environment with an emphasis on the wellbeing and mentorship of our nurses. 3Y is a dynamic, fast-paced unit that is committed to investing in our nurses’ professional growth and development with the goal of developing a community of specialized pediatric surgical nurses who will seamlessly provide care to our patients. As a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Registered Practical Nurse will apply their clinical expertise of pediatric diseases requiring surgical management to provide comprehensive nursing care to children 0-17 years as outlined within the practice standards and guidelines by the College of Nurses of Ontario. Nurses are set up for success and go through a comprehensive onsite orientation program, led by experienced health care professionals and educators to build a foundation of surgical knowledge as well as create confidence to care for pediatric patients.
