The Juravinski Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a 25 bed tertiary care unit supporting multiple clinical programs including the regional programs for central-south Ontario. The ICU provides specialized levels of care to the hematology, oncology, orthopedic, medical and surgical patient populations, utilizing a multidisciplinary and collaborative team approach dedicated to the principles of patient and family-centered care.  Our ICU nurses are set up for success and go through a comprehensive onsite orientation program, led by experienced health care professionals and educators. As a member of the multidiscipline healthcare team, the Registered Nurse coordinates and evaluates patient care and provides nursing care according to the standards of practice for Registered Nurses in Critical Care.

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) for the Pediatric Weight Management Program at McMaster Children’s Hospital will provide leadership and promote excellence in pediatric family centered nursing care through expert clinical practice, education, consultation and research. The NP would support the clinical activity of the Endocrinologists / Pediatricians and the associated patient care and interventions through the Pediatric Weight Management Program. The program is most focused in outpatient care, although occasional inpatient care occurs. Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team members, and using a patient and family centered model of care, the NP is responsible to: provide direct patient care, coordination of care, discharge planning, and the coordination of related community and other resources for this patient population; tutor and mentor nursing and other health professional students as appropriate, and participate in continuing education activities to integrate the role of the NP in the program and academic settings; initiate, participate, and/or lead programs, presentations, publications, evaluations, research initiatives and other system changes to continue the enhancement of interdisciplinary care teams. The NP will work in partnership with General Pediatrics, consultants, nursing and other members of the health care team to provide comprehensive medical assessment, management and education. The NP reports to the Director, Critical Care and Ambulatory Services, McMaster Children's Hospital, and the Chief of Nursing Practice.

The Clinical Extern is an integral member of the healthcare team, as an unregulated care provider, in the inpatient and outpatient care units at HHS.  As part of the interprofessional healthcare team, the Clinical Extern will support high quality care for patients and families, while demonstrating a commitment to excellence in supporting the patient and family experience. Clinical externs are involved in delivering care to our patients, which include head to toe assessments and vital signs, promoting patient safety through falls risk assessments and skin assessments, help with activities of daily living, and other nursing interventions that are assigned or delegated to them by the nurse.  Clinical Externs will work under the direct/indirect supervision of an Extern Coordinator. The Clinical Extern position is open to Nursing Students enrolled in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of an approved baccalaureate of nursing program, or in the 2nd/3rd/4th semester of the practical nursing program with the successful completion of one in-person clinical placement.  The Clinical Extern Program is also open to IENs (Internationally Educated Nurses) who have initiated registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), have received a CNO letter of direction and meet one of the following: - are in any year of study in a CNO approved program, such as a BScN-IEN program, PN-IEN program, or - are completing a micro-credential plan with a curriculum to meet the CNO requirements for registration (e.g. Standards of Practice for nursing, Entry-to-Practice Competencies, Evidence of Safe Practice, Evidence of English Language Proficiency) or - have completed their educational requirements (e.g. BScN-IEN/PN-IEN program, or micro-credentialing) and are waiting to write their registration exam  Externs will be hired on a part-time temporary basis until March 31, 2025.

Our Behavioural Health Program nurses are set up for success and go through a comprehensive onsite orientation program, led by experienced health care professionals and educators. As a member of this interdisciplinary healthcare team, the Registered Practical Nurse provides patient care in accordance with the standards of The College of Nurses of Ontario, nursing standards and policies/procedures at St. Peter's Hospital and current Gerontological Nursing Practice. Reporting to the Clinical Manager or delegate, the Registered Practical Nurse provides nursing care under the direction of and in collaboration with the RN and/or Case Manager.

3Y is the inpatient Pediatric Surgical Unit at McMaster Children’s Hospital (MCH) that provides specialized care for children aged 0-17 for children who need pre and post-operative care, and children who require specialized GI care. 3Y prides itself on a friendly and welcoming environment with an emphasis on the wellbeing and mentorship of our nurses. 3Y is a dynamic, fast-paced unit that is committed to investing in our nurses’ professional growth and development with the goal of developing a community of specialized pediatric surgical nurses who will seamlessly provide care to our patients. As a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Registered Practical Nurse will apply their clinical expertise of pediatric diseases requiring surgical management to provide comprehensive nursing care to children 0-17 years as outlined within the practice standards and guidelines by the College of Nurses of Ontario. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) - Gastroenterology, is part of a dynamic care team that includes Gastroenterologist, Registered Durses, Dietician, Research Coordinators, and Enterostomal Therapy Nurse. The team works seamlessly with an extended interdisciplinary team to diagnose, treat and advance the quality of care for complex chronic gastrointestinal disorders conduct research in the adult population. In collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, the NP will apply advanced decision making skills in health assessment, diagnosis, therapeutics and healthcare management, with a focus on clients affected by chronic, complex gastrointestinal disorders; these will be, primarily, clients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including those with complex disease. In addition to direct clinical care, the NP functions fully in the 5 domains of the role identified within Canadian Nurses Association’s APN Framework. These domains consist of the clinical practice, research, leadership, consultation and collaboration with education. The NP will provide leadership and promote excellence in patient centered nursing care through expert clinical practice, education, consultation and research. The NP will liaise with the multidisciplinary team and will support clinical outpatients of IBD clients. These supports include the telephone advice line, NP lead outpatient/telephone clinic, rapid access clinic, managing disease flares, assessment leading to investigation and treatment, providing education and planning for advance IBD therapy, coordinating colorectal cancer surveillance for IBD clients, managing pediatric to adult  transition pathway, service development and leadership, mentoring healthcare learners. 

3B2 is the inpatient Pediatric Hematology Oncology Unit at McMaster Children’s Hospital (MCH) that provides specialized care for children aged 0-18 with cancer and blood disorders. 3B2 is a dynamic, fast paced unit that is committed to investing in our nurses’ professional growth and development with the goal of developing a community of specialized hematology oncology nurses who will seamlessly provide care to our patients along the phases of illness continuum.  Nurses are set up for success and go through a comprehensive onsite orientation program, led by experienced health care professionals and educators to build a foundation of oncology knowledge as well as create confidence to care for patients with cancer.
