Processes treatment recommendations/referrals in collaboration with the ED physicians. Collaborates with the Emergency Department health care team on the development of treatment, discharge and transfer plans and implements the plan. Provides telephone or telehealth consultations to Prairie Mountain Health emergency departments for mental health presentations. Consultation will consist of telephone screening assessments and collaboration, provide recommendations and support to regional rural ED staff. Assists to provide psychological support to families of critically ill or deceased and to link with community resources whenever needed for patients in the Emergency Department. Supports families and acts as a clinical resource to colleagues regarding management of psychiatric, intoxicated, stressed, angry and aggressive patients. The MHRN provides leadership and expert mental health consultation in the provision of recovery focused patient/family centered care and acts as a resource for navigation of the Mental Health (MH) system. The Mental Health Resource Nurse’s service priority area is serving clients who are experiencing psychosocial crisis, mental illness or behavioral health concerns, and/ or co-occurring disorders in long term care. The MHRN provides bio psycho social education and support to staff in building mental health literacy and enhancing capacity of all health providers in the service to promote a recovery-oriented culture.
