D6 Unit Profile D6 a 36-bed unit is an integral part of the Odette Cancer Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. The main focus of the unit is caring for surgical oncology patients. Patients include Colorectal, Hepatopancreatobiliary, ENT/Head & Neck, Urology, and General Surgery.   Staff nurses are supported in their professional growth and development to acquire the skills and knowledge to care the patients. The unit environment fosters ongoing growth and leadership development whereby nurses are mentored in their pursuit of professional advancement. For example, staff are supported in their role as team leaders, council chairs, preceptors, and committee members. Quality improvement (QI) is one of the strengths of the unit. Nurses work collaboratively with the interprofessional team on projects to enhance patient care. They are coached to present QI projects locally, nationally, and internationally.   Summary of Duties RNs on the Unit work in an environment that fosters ongoing learning for staff and students with a commitment to preceptorship.
